YO-YO SYNDROME

The prevalence of obesity has increased in recent years and has become a global health problem worldwide. Body weight excess is a common problem in adults and children and needs to be treated. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines obesity as excessive fat storage that can threaten human health. The fact that individuals are in a constant cycle of weight gain and loss as a result of wrong diets, Dr. It was defined as Yo-Yo Syndrome by Kelly D. Brownell. Metabolic and physiological factors are effective in the formation of Yo-Yo syndrome. Improper and low-calorie diets applied in a short time are effective in the emergence of Yo-Yo syndrome. Individuals with this syndrome normally lose weight when they start dieting, but these lost weights do not have a long-term lasting effect and are regained more. The individual enters the inevitable weight cycle by losing weight and then immediately regaining it. In order to successfully treat Yo-Yo syndrome and prevent it from happening again, long-term weight loss should be achieved by adopting permanent lifestyle changes aimed at losing healthy weight, with support from a nutrition and diet specialist. Elimination of the harmful effects of the Yo-Yo cycle causes an increase in the average life expectancy and a decrease in the mortality rate instead of raising the living standards of the individual. In this study, it is aimed to investigate the metabolic and physiological factors underlying Yo-Yo syndrome and Yo-Yo syndrome with the support of the literature. The role of health professionals in the formation and development of healthy societies with healthy individuals is quite large. Adopting a multi-disciplinary approach, professional interventions for individuals' lifestyles and dietary habits are considered to be the most effective measure that can be taken against the Yo-Yo cycle.
